Card Atkinson

A painted postcard of a 1920s woman in a red bathing suit and cap. She stands on the edge of a diving board, smiling, the ocean behind her. Hand lettering at the top of the image reads, "Look out for the Splash!"

My short fiction and essays have appeared in places including McSweeney’s, The Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, and Salon, and in the anthologies Literary Mama: Reading for the Maternally Inclined and It’s a Girl: Women Writers on Raising Daughters. I worked as an entertainment journalist for eight years for MSN.com and sold a setup to a major network for a sitcom episode that no one will ever see.

Before becoming a journalist and prose writer, I studied screenwriting at Emerson College. My hobbies include talking about writing, hiking while thinking about writing, and worrying about how I’m not writing when I’m not writing.

I like dogs, the color orange, and whenever someone makes coffee.
